Class and mechanism

Testosterone is an endogenous androgen; the reference androgen. The principal endogenous androgen in men, acting at the androgen receptor and, via aromatase, as the substrate for endogenous oestradiol. Supplied as esters, which alter release rate but not the parent hormone delivered.

How it is supplied

Testosterone is supplied as an oil solution for intramuscular injection, supplied as single esters or blends. Common esters: propionate, isocaproate, enanthate, cypionate, undecanoate. Reported half-life: Determined entirely by the ester. Propionate roughly 0.8 days; enanthate about 4.5 days; cypionate about 5 days; undecanoate substantially longer. Storage: Room temperature, out of direct light. Crystallisation in cold conditions is a physical change, not degradation, and redissolves with gentle warming.

Worth knowing

Blends such as Sustanon 250 combine several esters to produce a composite release curve from a single injection.
